I installed a 120 GB Intel 535 SSD in my nc6400 because I was able to get one for only $60.00. You have to try several different antivirus programs until you find one that works. Internet Explorer is no good, so you have to use Firefox. The problem with W2K or XP is that so many internet things don't work right anymore. To have everything work right on the PC, W7 is probably the best overall choice, but I don't use the fingerprint sensor, so W10 works fine for me.
Operating systems.I have run every Windows OS on my nc6400 from Windows 2000 through Windows 10. The battery is probably no good anymore-especially if it is the original one. I am not a PC repair tech by trade or training. Unfortunately, I would have no idea about the battery charging issue.
Notebook Hardware and Upgrade Questions.There is still a Windows COA attached, however, there is no Windows installed. Linux is also known to be very safe and secure. There are also many free applications that you can download from word processing, picture editing, and even video editing. Linux Mint is selected as the default operating system to be installed, but if you want a different distribution like Kali, Ubuntu, or something else, just select it from the drop down menu (right above the add to cart button) and your laptop will ship out with that distribution. Linux Mint is the best operating system for somebody new to Linux because it is laid out a lot like Windows and is very user friendly. It also had the internals blown out with compressed air. Has been inspected and cleaned top to bottom. The laptop is in good condition only showing minor use.
